The role
You'll join the sales team as an SDR, booking demos for our Customer Development Managers (CDMs). Those demos come from three sources: cold outbound to charities that haven't come across Beacon yet, warm leads from charities that have spoken to us before or joined our webinars, and inbound enquiries from our website. Your SDR Team Lead will coach you day to day, and you'll take part in the sales team's regular Thursday development sessions, which draw on the Sandler method.
What you'll do
- Research priority charities, including contacts from sector events and target lists you build yourself, and reach them with tailored outreach by phone, email, LinkedIn and video.
- Re-engage charities that have spoken to us before, and follow up people who have joined our webinars or downloaded our content.
- Make cold calls every day and work through the early objections that come with them until you've earned the right to ask questions.
- Run discovery calls that find out what isn't working for a charity and why fixing it matters to them now.
- Qualify every lead carefully, including the intro calls that come in through our website, so that the demos you book give CDMs time with charities that are a strong fit.
- Meet your daily activity goals and your monthly targets for demos booked.
- Manage your pipeline in Beacon, which we use to run our own sales process.
- Work with Marketing on targeted outreach and represent Beacon at sector events.
What we're looking for
The best outbound SDRs are methodical and curious, and they keep going on days when the calls go badly. We're looking for someone commercially driven who wants to master outbound sales at a company dedicated to doing good.
- A record of hitting targets in a role where you called people who weren't expecting to hear from you, whether as an SDR or BDR, in telefundraising, in recruitment or somewhere similar.
- The confidence to contact people you don't know, and the curiosity to keep a first conversation going until you know whether we can help.
- A friendly manner alongside the commercial confidence to question how a charity does things today, since part of Beacon's brand is being smart and charming with the charities we work with.
- Clear, persuasive written English, and the ability to write tailored cold outreach that gets replies.
- Openness to coaching and an interest in learning a structured sales method; we train in Sandler.
- An interest in technology and the ability to understand what a piece of software does for the people who use it.
- An interest in the charity sector and the difference it makes.
If you meet most of these but not all, we'd still like to hear from you: we know great people don't always tick every box.

Diversity
We want to help address the tech sector's diversity problem, and we consider building a diverse and representative team critical to our success. We encourage everyone with the skills this role needs to apply.
